For the SIXTH straight year, Fayette Savings Bank (FSB) has been voted BEST BANK in the Readers’ Choice “Best of Fayette” contest.
“We are once again proud, honored and thankful to the voters who chose us for what we consider a most coveted award for a bank to receive,” says Wade Mozisek, FSB President/CEO. “It’s a strong affirmation of the trust and loyalty our customers and communities have in us.”
The awards don’t stop there! FSB also captured the BEST PLACE TO WORK award and four individual awards.
For the FIFTH year in a row, the title of BEST BANK TELLER stays at FSB with Cheryl Brossmann of Schulenburg becoming a repeat winner, having won it in 2023 as well. Previous successive winners were Shelby Weyand & Marissa Navarro, La Grange and Brandi Rerich, Schulenburg.
“With Cheryl’s 25 years of service, she has truly captured the hearts of her customers,” said Darlene Brothers, Sr. VP – Deposit Services. “She goes above and beyond and has been known to make ‘house-calls’ to customers when her instinct alerts fraud or scam may be involved. She is an excellent example to her team and encourages them to offer the same courteous and outstanding service FSB expects of all their employees.”
“The tellers have the most interaction with customers on a daily basis,” Brothers continued. “This is where our team’s skill, professionalism and dedication pay off – building trust and providing a positive experience for customers, allowing them to feel comfortable entrusting their money with our bank.”
Other individual awards went to Wade Mozisek for BEST BANKER…Sam Gunn for BEST LOAN OFFICER, and Bryce Moerbe for BEST COMPUTER TECHNICIAN – winner of this award for the 5th time in 7 years.
“We’ve said for years, it’s our people that make our bank successful,” said David Zapalac, Chairman of the Board and 45-year veteran of FSB. “All banks basically offer the same products. It’s our people and the level of customer service we provide that’s been a catalyst for the significant growth our bank has experienced the past few years.”
With locations in La Grange, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar and its newest banking center in Fayetteville – it’s plain to see FSB epitomizes the definition of a local, community bank. 42 of 44 FSB employees graduated from a Fayette or surrounding county high school.
Fayette Savings Bank receives regular compliments from the public who recognize its presence out in area communities – supporting civic, non-profits, schools, youth activities (sports, agriculture/stock shows), churches, etc..
“Yes, this does stretch the budget at times, but the expense side of it is really secondary,” Mozisek said. “Community banking still matters and being out there, supporting all these causes, resonates with the people we serve. Community involvement isn’t a marketing strategy for us, it’s who we are. We don’t see it as just writing a check – we’re investing in our neighbors, our future, and the place we call home.”
FSB’s School Debit Card Program has been a huge success since its inception in 2022. Some $25,000.00 has been given back to area schools through the program in which a percentage of every debit card transaction result in a donation to participating schools. There are eight school cards customers can choose from – La Grange, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Weimar and Fayetteville – public and Catholic schools.
“As a local, community bank, we deal with multiple generations of customers and their families,” Zapalac said. “It’s important to recognize the needs and expectations each generation seeks; thus, we focus on keeping pace with modern technology while not forgetting the “old school” method of banking. Meeting our customer’s needs will always be at the forefront of our business plan.”
“Our strength lies in being local, present, and intentional,” Mozisek said. “We prioritize giving back, not because we have to, but because it’s the right thing to do – and because it’s part of what makes community banking so special.”
It’s not just about making monetary donations. FSB employees are often seen out in public volunteering at drive-thru dinners, fairs/festivals, church picnics, school events, etc. “Community involvement goes far beyond financial services,” Mozisek said. “Volunteerism is a natural extension of our commitment to giving back – and being present in the moments that matter most to our customers and communities allow us to connect on a more personal level and reinforce that FSB is not just a place to bank – it is part of the community fabric.”
“When residents choose FSB, they’re not just opening an account – they’re voting with their dollars to support a bank that puts local priorities first,” Zapalac said. “Every new customer is a sign of community trust. A checking account may seem simple, but it forms the backbone of a community bank’s deposit base.”
In short, becoming a customer of Fayette Savings Bank is not just a financial transaction; it’s a partnership with a bank that’s deeply rooted in the community. A way for residents to directly support the mission they already admire, enabling FSB to continue making a difference where it matters most.
“We want to be the bank our customers are proud to be a part of – we want our customers to be proud of our success and feel they are part of the reason for that success…because they are” Zapalac concluded.
Fayette Savings Bank also proudly acknowledges that it has, once again, received a 5-Star Superior rating from BauerFinancial, the Nation’s Premier Bank Rating Firm.A 5-Star Superior rating indicates that Fayette Savings Bank is one of the strongest banks in the nation, excelling in areas of capital, loan quality, profitability and more. This marks the 78th consecutive quarter that Fayette Savings Bank has earned this top rating, which secures it an even more elite status as an “Exceptional Performance Bank”, an honor reserved solely for banks that have maintained a 5-Star rating for 10 years (40 consecutive quarters) or longer.
“A lot of things are changing”, reflects Karen L. Dorway, president of BauerFinancial. “Rules and regulations are being retooled, technology is advancing at lightning speed, and it’s easy to feel like you’re getting lost in the fray,” she continues. “People don’t want to feel like that at their bank. When they walk into a branch, they want to feel confident that their deposits are safe, that all rules are being followed, and that their banker understands their specific needs. That’s why it’s so important to have 5-Star rated (Superior) banks, like Fayette Savings Bank, in our communities. We can be confident that they have our hard-earned deposits properly secured.”
